Backing Jonell are a collection of superb musicians in their own right:
Tom is a Nashville icon. His unique style has for years qualified him as a much sought after musician in the lexicon of Americana music. Besides being the guitarist for Vince Gill for the last 20 years, he has worked with Leon Russel, Sting, Eric Clapton, Cheryl Crow, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, and Donnie & Marie!….and others.
A master of color, he plays with a style unique, as it is vast. With rhythmic fills and movements he embraces the story being told, and when he digs in. you will find yourself holding your breath…….
The Guanabacoa-native bass player is considered one of Cuba’s bright musical stars. Music is in his DNA.
Recently the celebrated bass player has toured with pianist Chucho Valdés in the recent revival of the seminal Latin jazz band Irakere. He is all about fusion – where his country’s traditional music, his conservatory education, and jazz – his greatest passion – come together in fresh, energizing, and exciting ways.
One of the best in Nashville. He has worked with Allison Krause, Jerry Douglas, Jack Pearson, The Nashville Jazz Workshop. Though typically not thought as the “instrument” that accompanies the singer, the musicality of his playing in every way is far from the norm.
A precise keeper of the beat, yet he lays down the groove, dynamics and vibe with an amazing sense of feel. The voicing’s he brings forth with his kit are as carefully placed and melodic as any singers voice. He is one SMF!
Jimmy “King’ Greasy” is perhaps best summed up by an article in the Oregon Music News after his performance at the Portland Jazz Festival in 2011: “Mr. Pribbenow returned to Portland to supply a mean saxophone line. He claims a sordid past in R&B bands – but clearly demonstrated his chops. His solos have energy and creativity; his fills were clear and appropriate. And by god, it looked like he was enjoying the whole thing.”
“King” Greasy spent 10 years as a studio musician recording with such outstanding producers as Don Was, Billy Sherrill, Kenny Greenberg, Fred Foster, and George Massenburg. Warren Haynes. He is also a member of Kent Records band Blue Monday. The Blue Monday band held court as a Monday night staple at Nashville’s famous Blue Bird Café from 1982 to 1986.
Watching Jimmy takes you on an amazing journey. One moment he digs in deep to the heart of the band and supercharges it. Other times, he is thoughfully listening and looking to lay in just the right amount of “sweetness”, just enough to emphasize one of his bandmates offerings. Authoritive yet gracious.
